Chappy’s Outdoors provides combat veterans an opportunity to connect with each other and their faith during hunting and fishing excursions. Chaplain Major Jeremiah Catlin combined his experience as a chaplain in the U.S. Army, a combat veteran serving in Iraq and outdoor guide to create this nonprofit organization. What started as a venture based in his garage grew to having a national presence. Along the way, the nonprofit experienced growing pains which tested his leadership skills. Jeremiah will reflect on lessons learned.

About the speaker: Chaplain Maj. Jeremiah Catlin comes to the Maxwell School as part of the Defense Comptrollership Program. While pursuing his EMPA, he wishes to learn more about management in NGOs and faith-based non-profit companies with a focus on generating support. Jeremiah is a Major coming from Fort Riley, Kansas where he served as the Brigade Chaplain for the Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. After graduation, he is currently projected to work as a Chaplain Resource Manager at PACOM in Hawaii. He earned a Bachelor’s in Pastoral & Bible in 2002, a Master’s of Divinity in 2005, and an ABD Doctorate of Ministry in 2011 through the Army’s Clinical Pastoral Education progra
