About
the Program
The
Nonprofit Studies Program was established in the fall of 2003 under
the auspices of the Campbell Public Affairs Institute with Professor Arthur Brooks
as the first director. The Program ties
together nonprofit research,
outreach and teaching activities
at The Maxwell School. Each year the Program brings respected
scholars to the university to engage with faculty and students on
issues related to the nonprofit/non-governmental sector.
The Program's
mission is to create and facilitate sharing of knowledge about
nonprofit governance, management, and policy.
For example, in 2006 the
Program
presented a workshop on the "Big Questions in Nonprofit Management."
The speakers were
Wolfgang Bielefeld and Dwight Burlingame,
editors of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly and Roger Lohmann,
editor of
Nonprofit
Management and Leadership.
