Cambpell Mission and History
The mission of the Alan K. Campbell Public Affairs Institute is to examine the ideal of citizenship, its evolution, and the conditions under which it thrives. Campbell projects explore the relationship among citizens, private organizations, and government in an effort to improve understanding of the development and implementation of effective leadership, management, and policy. Campbell affiliates investigate the connections among citizens, media, nonprofit groups, and the law; and responsiveness to individual and group interests in the shaping of public institutions and decisions.
The Institute was named for Alan K. (Scotty) Campbell, Dean of the Maxwell School from 1969 to 1976. It was created in 1996 with generous funding from the Campbell family, ARAMARK, Scotty Campbell's former students, and his many professional colleagues. With continued gifts and grants, the endowment continues to grow while programming expands.
