New Jersey Initiative
The New Jersey Initiative was an exciting project designed to advance the state of knowledge about local government management. Thanks to a grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts, additional funding from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, and financial assistance from the National Academy of Public Administration, The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University and the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University teamed to conduct this important research pilot project.
The New Jersey Initiative was a collaborative effort that assessed the management capacity of seven municipalities in the State of New Jersey. The participating municipalities were committed to learning about the state of their management systems from the project’s researchers. The results informed government officials, citizens, and public administration scholars about management system capacity and its link to the improvement of government performance.
