An introduction to the theory and practice of International Relations for the professional degree students in the MA in International Relations Program. A survey and critique of approaches to understanding international relations from the perspective of the practitioner who must deal with problems of individual choice, small groups, and organizational factors in the conduct of International Relations. A series of case studies from the Pew Case Study Center of the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University is used to provide first-hand experience in policy decision-making and international negotiation. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in e-group discussions and work in small groups to construct Web sites on topics of their choosing. The course also provides an overview of leading I.R. theories, such as realism and neo-realism, pluralism, globalism, feminism, and post-modern perspectives. Offered in Fall 2001 by Matt Bonham.
