The Maxwell School encourages the
pursuit of two concurrent degrees, and makes it convenient. You can
earn two degrees for about 80 percent of the credits you
would need for the two separately.
There are numerous opportunities for
concurrent degrees, made easy by the physical presence of
the professional schools in a social science environment.
You might want to combine your professional degree with one,
for example, in geography, political science, economics, history, or
social science. You can also explore second-degree options
at SU’s other colleges, or at the SUNY College of
Environmental Science and Forestry.
A formal, integrated joint degree
exists that combines Maxwell's two professional programs, as
do joint programs combining each of the professional
programs with a law degree. These options are described below:

If you are interested in public
administration in an international context, you may be
interested in both of Maxwell’s signature degrees: the
Master of Public Administration degree and the Master of
Arts degree in International Relations. Through the joint
M.P.A./M.A.-I.R. Program, you take courses in both programs
each semester, and have access to all the off-campus
opportunities of both. You can complete the 58 credits for
both degrees in two years of full-time study.

A partnership of law and public
administration is essential to effective government. You can
prepare for a career that rests on that nexus with an M.P.A.
and a J.D. from Syracuse University’s
College
of Law. You must be admitted to both programs. You can
complete this challenging degree in three years.

Degrees in law and international
relations will open opportunities in every corner of the
world. You may pursue both through the International
Relations program and SU’s
College
of Law. These degrees can be completed in about three
years, or a little more time than either program separately.
You must be admitted to both programs.
