3- Refers to the number of academic hours the course carries.
Y- indicates that the course is offered at least once every academic year
    (fall and spring, not summer).
S- indicates that the course is offered every semester.
E- indicates that the course is offered every other year, in academic years when the fall semester occurs in an even year (e.g. 1996-1997).
SI- indicates that the course is offered when there is sufficient student interest.
O- indicates that the course is offered every other year, in academic years when the fall semester occurs in an odd year (e.g. 1997-98).

ECN 505 Mathematical Economics 3 Y
Introduction to use of basic mathematical techniques in economic analysis. Calculus recommended. Prereq: MAT 284 or 286 or 296 and ECN 301 or 311

ECN 521 Economic Statistics 3 S
Statistical methods applied to economics. Conventional descriptive statistics, conceptual and measurement problems peculiar to economics. Analytical statistics, including time series analysis, elementary theory of probability and statistical inference, correlation and regression analysis. Nonparametric methods. Prereq: completion of mathematics basic skills.

ECN 522 Econometric Methods 3 Y
Statistical procedures. Problems of estimating parameters in regression models of economic behavior. Prereq. ECN 521 or equivalent and ECN 301 or 311; or permission of instructor.

ECN 552 Economics of Aging 3 Y
A microeconomic tool kit for evaluating public policies is developed by presenting articles that illustrate the use of economic analysis to predict behavioral and income distribution consequences of government policy targeted at older people. Prereq: ECN 301 or 311; or permission of instructor.

ECN 558 Poverty, Inequality, & Discrimination 3 O
Poverty and inequality in income and wealth distributions, especially in non-poor societies. Causes of poverty and inequality. Economic theories of discrimination. Public policy, including training, compensatory education, social security, and other income transfers. Prereq: ECN 301 or 311 or permission of instructor.

ECN 566 International Macroeconomics and Finance 3 Y
Monetary, fiscal, and regulatory consequences of mushrooming international financial markets including equities, bonds, and other securities, commodity and other option contracts, and bank deposits and loans. Prereq: ECN 302.

ECN 575 Law and Economics 3 Y
Use of welfare theory and microeconomic tools in analysis of law and legal regulations. Prereq: ECN 301 or 311 or permission of instructor.

ECN 601 Survey of Microeconomic Theory 3 Y
Microeconomics. For graduates with little recent work in economics. Prereq: ECN 101,102 or equivalent. (An M.A. and a Ph.D section of this course is offered each Fall.)

ECN 602 Survey of Macroeconomic Theory 3 Y
Macroeconomics. For graduates with little recent work in economics. Prereq: ECN 101,102 or equivalent.

ECN 631 Public Finance 3 Y
Economics of expenditure and taxation decisions of U.S. federal government. Public choice, economics of transfer payments to individuals, personal and corporate income taxation, and economics of social security program. For master's candidates.

ECN 635/PPA 735 State and Local Government Public Finance 3 Y
Expenditures and revenues of state and local governments. Fiscal aspects of intergovernmental relations. Prereq: (for ECN 635): ECN 601 or Equivalent; (for PPA 735): PPA 723.

ECN 655/PPA 736 Economics of Health and Medical Care 3 Y
Economic theory and empirical findings for the health and medical care sector. Demand for health care and insurance. Physician and hospital behavior. Analysis of public policy including financing regulation and research.

ECN 661 Economics of Development 3 Y
Uses basic economic tools to analyze and survey major issues currently important in the study of economic development in the Third World; measures and theories of development; key domestic issues; international links between LDCs and the rest of the world; policies to provide development. Prereq: ECN 601 or equivalent.

ECN 665 International Economics 3 Y
Balance of payments, foreign exchange markets, international trade theory, tariffs, quotas adjustment mechanisms, and exchange controls.

ECN 681 Money, Banking, & Monetary Policy 3 SS
Financial instruments and structure, banking organization and regulation. Money supply determination control and policy. The Federal Reserve: structure and policy instruments. Prereq: ECN 521 or 602 or equivalent, or permission of instructor. Master's or doctoral candidates only.

ECN 682/FIN 656 Money and Capital Markets 3 Y
Composition, nature, and functions of the money and capital markets. Relation of theory to operations. Major paper required. Prereq: MBC 633 or equivalent or permission of instructor.
