Certificate Application and Admission Information
The Maxwell School offers several certificate options for mid-career professionals to pursue either as an alternative to the EMPA program or in tandem with a masters degree. Students may earn a certificate on a full-time basis over one semester or on a part-time basis spanning a longer time period. Earning a certificate may offer many benefits to those who receive them.
Admission Requirements
- Applicants should have 7 or more years of mid-level professional experience, including management responsibilities with some public sector work preferred.
- Applications should be submitted for the Fall semester by February 1, for the Spring semester by August 15.

If you are NOT currently a SU Graduate Student:
- Completed Application Form - Syracuse University Graduate School Application
- Personal Essay - 1 page background and desire of nominee to participate in the program
- Official transcript - from graduate and undergraduate studies
- 3 Letters of Recommendation – (for recent students 2 letters should be from faculty)
- Application Fee - $75.00 (non refundable)
- GRE Scores - Not required
- TOEFL Scores - 92-93 (internet-based test), 580 (written test), 237 (computer-based test) minimum for unconditional admissions
Interview
Prospective applicants of any program are welcome to visit Syracuse, although personal interviews are not required.
