EMPA Admission Process - Application and Admission Information

The Executive Master of Public Administration is a midcareer degree program that prepares managers for the challenges of leading dynamic organizations in the public and nonprofit sectors. By combining rigorous study in public management, leadership, and policy, the degree is uniquely suited to the needs of experienced professionals.  Coursework invites students to examine issues from comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives.  As a result, the 30-credit program attracts officials from around the globe, resulting in an exciting and unique learning environment. Designed for completion in one calendar year of full-time study, the program is open to part-time students as well.

Admission Requirements

Professional Experience - Applicants should have 7 or more years of mid-level professional experience, including management responsibilities with some public sector work preferred.

Deadline - Applications should be submitted for the Fall semester by February 1, for the spring semester by August 15

Interview - Prospective applicants of any program are welcome to visit Syracuse, although personal interviews are not required. Transferring credits - Applicants may request transfer of up to 6 credits of graduate-level coursework completed at an accredited graduate institution.  The coursework may be considered if it was completed within 7 years of the student’s graduation date from the Master of Arts in Public Administration program.

  • 3 Letters of Recommendation – (for recent students 2 letters should be from faculty)
  • Application Fee - $65.00 (non refundable)
  • GRE Scores: Not required
  • TOEFL Scores: 580 (written test), 237 (computer-based test), 92-93 (internet-based test) minimum for unconditional admissions
