The PGPPM is a two-year program leading to a post graduate diploma. The program is the first of its kind in India and is designed to equip midcareer civil servants with the concepts, skills, and techniques in formulating public policy and strategic management of public systems. The Government of India has been supporting this joint initiative by the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB) and the Maxwell School since 2002.

Each year, Maxwell conducts a seven week intensive program on 'Issues in Public Policy: an International Perspective' for the PGPPM program. Participants learn how public policy issues are addressed in the United States and work with Maxwell faculty to develop an in-depth policy study paper of their choice.

The Program is administered through the Center for Public Policy at IIMB and the  Executive Education Program  at the Maxwell School.
