delivers training program in Shanghai, China - Professors Walter
Broadnax and David Van Slyke traveled to Shanghai, China to
deliver a senior-level management training program from April 20 and April 24.
The Shanghai
Administrative Institute (SAI) hosted the program as part of a larger
training initiative for Shanghai government officials including
sixty-five senior and middle-level officials from city and
sub-district agencies. |

(NSMC) - The 2009 National Security Management
Course (NSMC) will be in residence for two weeks at Syracuse
University’s Maxwell School beginning April 26. |

IDB delegation attending workshop at Maxwell - High
level staff from the Inter-American Development Bank’s regional
offices throughout Latin America and the Caribbean will visit
the Maxwell School April 26 – 28 for a public sector reform
workshop.

Xueyi Chen defends her dissertation - Xueyi Chen,
Executive Education Program's Program Manager for China Programs
has successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation on April 16th,
2009.
The title of her dissertation was "Issues Obtrusiveness in in the
Agenda-Setting Process of National Network Television News".

awarded the Gold Medal at the 34th IIMB Convocation Function by

- On December 15 - 17 the Leaders for Democracy Fellows second
annual Alumni conference will take place in Marrakech, Morocco.
28 of the 42 Fellows who attended the LDF program at the Maxwell
School in 2007 and 2008 will attend. |

director of the School’s Executive Education Program -
Long standing director, Bill Sullivan is assuming a new position
as assistant dean for external relations. Steve Lux will replace
Bill Sullivan as director of Executive Education Program. |

Executive Education Welcomes Delegation from India’s National
Police Academy - Executive Education hosted a
delegation of officers from the National Police Academy in
Hyderabad, India. Maxwell is currently in negotiations to
develop midcareer training programs for senior officials in
Indian Police Service. |

2008 International Journalists Program - This is
the third year in which the Maxwell and Newhouse Schools will be
co-hosting international journalists as part of the State
Department’s Edward R. Murrow Program for International
Journalists. In the past, the University has hosted journalists
from North African and the Middle East. This year, twelve North
African journalists will be visiting the Syracuse campus, along
with three interpreters. |

National Security Studies in Action - As part of a
Joint Leadership Program Seminar conducted by the Office of the
Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), a team assembled as
part of the National Security Studies (NSS) Program presented a
two-day simulation in Washington, D.C. in July for 23
participants representing many of the 16 intelligence agencies
in the federal government. |

Maxwell School - For two weeks in July, the
Executive Education Programs welcome the MSSc students to the
Maxwell School for a two week Residency from July 14—July 25. |

Over 100 Mid-Career Indian Administrative Service Officers
Complete the Phase IV Program - Senior officers
within the Indian Administrative Service, attended the Phase IV
program that took place in April, May and June of this year. The
program took place at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy
of Administration, an Indian government research and training
institute on administration and public policy. |

Tsinghua University’s School of Public Policy and Management
wins award for its Executive Masters of Public Administration
(EMPA) program - Tsinghua University’s School of
Public Policy and Management (SPPM) received one of Tsinghua
Unviersity’s forty first-prize awards for its Executive Masters
of Public Administration (EMPA) program.
Tsinghua University’s EMPA and Maxwell jointly organize a two-week
program on “international public administration”. |

Joint program completed in Korea - The Maxwell
School has just completed a joint training program with the KDI
School of Public Policy and Management for a delegation of over
100 senior officials from the Government of India. |

- Graduation ceremonies were held on June 6th for the twenty
Fellows from 10 countries in the Middle East who participated in
the Leaders for Democracy Fellows program.

Congratulations to our newly graduated Executive MPA and
Certificate Students! - Around twenty EMPA and
Certificate graduates took part in the Maxwell Convocation on
May 10, 2008. The event took place in the Grant Auditorium of
the Law College and began at 2pm. Catherine Gerard, our
Associate Director was the Convocation speaker. A number of
colleagues joined the festive event to cheer on their friends.

Dean Mitchel Wallerstein visits China, meets with E-MPA and
Executive Training graduates in Beijing and Shanghai

As part of Dean Wallerstein’s recent visit to China, he met with
graduates of the Executive -Masters of Public Administration
degree program in Beijing. During his trip to Shanghai, he met
with a number of government officials who completed a program at
Maxwell in the Fall of 2005.

NSS hosts 41 participants for the National Security Management
Course 2008 - The 2008 National Security Management
Course was in session from April 27 to May 9 at the Maxwell
School of Syracuse University. This year’s course featured 41
participants from across the United States and abroad.

student Xiaoping Liu presented "Developing Adaptive Leadership".
Xiaoping discussed the changing world the need for adaptive
leadership. She recounted from her own experiences in China and
the UN mission to explain the importance of adaptive leadership. |

arrived at the Maxwell School today as part of the Leaders for

- IIMB
and Maxwell are jointly developing the Phase IV program for the
Government of India. Professor Gopal Naik and Professor Chiranjib

Shenzhen City Government Training Program Concludes
- The Shenzhen City Government Delegation completed their study
program on Rule of Law and Oversight in City Governance. The
group spent three weeks in Syracuse and then a full week in
Albany, NY and Washington DC. |
