Humphrey Fellow discusses Drug-Trafficking and Transnational Crime in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran 

Umar Riaz, a 2010-2011 Humphrey Fellow from Pakistan, recently participated in a discussion about drug-trafficking and transnational crime.  He is currently at The Stimson Center working on the “Managing Across Boundaries” project which “looks for innovative government response and smart public-private partnerships to mitigate security challenges.” 

Riaz and Matt Aikins, an international freelance journalist, participated in a conversation about the impact and challenges of combatting drug trafficking.  As Riaz noted, the police agencies must obey borders; the drug traffickers do not.  He is a law enforcement officer most recently working in the Frontier Province as well as tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
