EMPA Alumni recognized for her achievements

Ms. Pamela Heintz, who recently graduated with her MA in Public Administration degree in the Fall 2008 semester, has been recognized for her outstanding work as the Director of the Mary Ann Shaw Center for Public and Community Service (CPCS). As recognition of her achievements, Chancellor Cantor and Syracuse University has named Pam the Associate Vice President for Engagement in the Division of Academic Affairs.

Pam has been the founding director of the CPCS since its beginning in 1994. Through her leadership, the CPCS and Syracuse University has forged strong ties with the community by providing literacy programs, community-based learning and research opportunities and multiple partnerships. Additionally, she founded the SU Literacy Corps and SU’s American Reads program which provides more than 35,000 hours of tutoring to more than 4,500 children in the Central New York area annually. Also, Pam oversees more than 150 student mentors who work in the community.

Because of Pam’s involvement and accomplishments, SU was recognized by The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll – the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive – for exceptional accomplishments in the special focus area in 2007 and with distinction for community service and hurricane relief in 2006.

Congratulations to Pam!! She is woman with many talents, drive and persistence and she is sharing and improving her part of the world, a great example of public administration ethics and morale!
