Research topic:
My dissertation research (tentatively!) titled “Crossing Streets, Crossing
Nation-States: South Asian Transnationalism in Chicago and Toronto” consists of
a comparative analysis of the transnational practices and affiliations of South
Asian migrants (Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi, and Nepali) in
Chicago and Toronto. Comparing
South Asian transnationalism between these two cities allows me to consider how
national and urban spaces shape and are shaped by the activities and practices
of migrants, but also the ways in which the multiple identities, affiliations,
and differences of South Asian migrants simultaneously intersect and exceed the
borders of nation-states.
