Expansion of Citizenship & Democracy Core Courses

Throughout Maxwell’s distinguished history, there has never been a time when the issues, questions, and challenges to citizenship and democracy have been more complex – or more important to society.

Why this is important
In a world of global conflict, challenges to civil society and democracy, and ongoing policy dilemmas, the unique education the Maxwell School provides has never been more important.  For more than 80 years, undergraduates at Syracuse University have taken Maxwell’s popular and highly acclaimed citizenship courses to prepare them for an active and informed public life.   These courses, taught by some of the best and most memorable of Maxwell’s teachers, distill the essence of a Maxwell education: democracy and civic responsibility.

Why Maxwell needs YOUR Help
Maxwell aspires to allow every undergraduate with an interest to participate in these courses.  Yet currently demand for these core classes far exceeds our ability to provide them.  Creating an endowment to fund citizenship education will enable more students to take these classes. Gifts to support the expansion of citizenship and democracy core courses would also allow the School to bring together leaders from across academia and practice to share their knowledge and perspectives, as well as conduct ongoing symposia to address important economic, social and political issue.

Ways you can provide support for citizenship & democracy courses
Your gift can help solidify Maxwell’s position as a leader in advancing citizenship as a priority in the modern world and prepare today’s students depart the halls of Maxwell as informed citizens, leaders of their communities and, in some cases, the nations of the world.
