Faculty Research and Development

Support for faculty research and development is an investment in the teaching, research, and professional development of the 145 faculty members who bring so much energy and dedication to the students of the Maxwell School.

Why this is important
Across the Maxwell School’s many disciplines, research and development funds provide crucial support and recognition for both established and emerging leaders on the faculty. Grants such as Maxwell’s annual Appleby-Mosher awards allow professors to collaborate with students on research projects, to enhance their curricula with leading-edge scholarship, and to travel to fieldwork sites and archives to key elements of their research. Preliminary research and program development funded by Maxwell allows scholars to flesh out their ideas and secure major external funding. Project funding from the School also helps professors cultivate new programs in growing areas such as nonprofit studies and national security, which, in turn become magnets for top scholars and students.

Why Maxwell Needs YOUR Help
Without the large endowments of our peer institutions, Maxwell cannot provide crucial support and recognition for both established and emerging leaders on the faculty. A gift to the School’s faculty project funds enables the Maxwell School to attract and retain leading research scholars and encourages junior faculty as they rise in prominence in their departments and field
