FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

There is a wealth of funding opportunities available for graduate and undergraduate students who are studying various topics within the broad field of international relations.  The eligibility requirements vary significantly as does the funding restrictions which include money for research, field work, or study off-campus.  Links to these opportunities are provided below, as is a brief description of each opportunity organized into a table that lists the basic funding description, eligibility requirements, and application deadline.

Harry S. Truman Library Institute Research Grants Public policy and foreign policy research grants to allow graduate students to conduct research at the Harry S. Truman library. Graduate students who are conducting research on enduring public policy and foreign policy issues that will likely be published.

Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship Undergraduate or graduate funding for work on peace and security in Washington, DC Undergraduate and Graduate students who have demonstrated a strong interest in peace and security issues.  U.S. citizens are given preference. See website for  details.
Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program Undergraduate and graduate fellowships for work in DC relating to public policy and market-based mechanisms' effect on social and economic problems. Open to undergraduate students, graduate students and recent graduates of all nationalities.  Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated interest in public policy issues. February 2008
Institute for Humane Studies: Humane Studies Fellowship Graduate and undergraduate fellowships for study of human rights, rule of law, free trade and other human affairs and humane studies related to the ideas of liberty.  Applies to study abroad. Taiwan Foundation for Democracy:
Graduate Fellowship and International Visiting Fellowship
Funding for research on courses on global democracy and human rights in Taiwan. Graduate students must be enrolled in a relevant master's degree program. See website for details.
American Council of Learned Societies: East European Language Training Grants East European language training grants for Americans to study an Eastern European language over the summer. U.S. Citizens or permanent residents; completed undergraduate degree; must use language in academic research or training. See website for details.
Archibald Bush Foundation: Leadership Fellows Program Fellowships support learning experiences that may include academic course work, internships, or self-designed study program. U.S. Citizens or permanent residents at least 28 years of age who have worked or lived for at least one continuous year in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, or one of several counties in Wisconsin. October

Julius Nyerere Fellowship Graduate fellowships for students studying economic, political, & social dimensions of U.S. foreign policies towards the issues of Africa.  Graduate students in International Relations, African studies, or related field.
