Supporting Your Stay

We recognize that the costs of living in Washington are higher than some other metropolitan areas, and so we offer work-study and assistantship positions that provide a few lucky students with the opportunity to earn a few bucks on the side.  These positions help us serve you better, and in return we try to help you off-set your costs. Those eligible for these positions have so indicated on their applications already. If decisions have not been made by the time of the orientation, you can expect to hear from us soon thereafter.

IR Program Associate

This is a federal work-study position, and thus open to US citizens who qualify for this type of federal student aid. The IR Program Associate is usually based at the “IR HQ” at the Greenberg House, one day a week, usually the Friday, and helps our Director keep our program running. There are a variety of administrative things to ensure an effective program, and you would play a central part. The associate will assist IR in such administrative aid as making appointments, keeping track of our internship contacts, our database, and some of the things associated with receipts.

You must have your paperwork in order before accepting this position, should it be offered to you. If you attain this position, call the IR office to make an appointment to see our Assistant Director, Deanna Phillips, to arrange details and pick up a schedule of payments. If you held an SU work-study position in the past, no other paperwork needs to be submitted on your end. If you currently hold a work-study position, contact the payroll person in that office and ask them to end your date of employment in that department and submit the paperwork to the Skytop offices. Give the contact information for the current department's payroll person to the IR Assistant Director. We will mail you your paycheck stubs during the semester, and strongly urge you to have direct deposit into your bank account. Bring a voided check along with you and we'll get all the necessary forms to Skytop for you.

Co-Program Assistant (2)

Two people in the group will serve as co-program assistants; these assistants can be US citizens, but need not. In return for the co-program assistants team effort, we’ll off-set some of the housing costs as below.

This team will engage in some organizing and administrative aid for the cohort and our website, but will serve also in a mediation and advising role. As we'll note in the orientation and pre-departure meetings, these two posts come with a break on your Academic Program Fee, so your bursar's bill will reflect our aid to you in this way; your program fee for housing will be $2,000 plus a $100 housing deposit as opposed to $2,800 plus a $100 housing deposit, providing you with $800 in additional funds.

Both the IR Program Associate and the Co-Program Assistants will report to Melissa Morton at the Paul Greenberg House.
