2009 Global Programs Application

While there are over twenty "Global Programs" opportunities available through the International Relations Program, only a select few are actually administered by the International Relations Program, itself; the majority are administered by SU Abroad, the University's study abroad office.  SU Abroad has an online application process accessible through their website.  Programs administered by IR require that students complete the application form below.  This form is required for any student who is interested in participating in any of the following global programs:

  • War and the Liberal Conscience (3-credits, spring course in London)
  • African Development Seminar (3-credits, Maymester course in DC)
  • Latin America Policy Seminar (3-credits, Maymester course in DC)
  • DC Summer Practicum Program (6-credits, summer course & internship in DC)
  • Global Security & Development Program (fall courses & internship in DC)
  • Global Europe Program (fall course & internship in Europe)

Admission to these programs is limited due to class size and program resources and support.  Program Directors and, in some cases, a selection committee, are responsible for reviewing applications and selecting candidates for admission.  The three central criteria for admission to these programs are relevance to program of study, potential for successful participation, and motivation.  Please respond to the program information questions carefully with these criteria in mind.

Application Instructions:

  • The application form is available online at the URL below.  The application is a writeable .pdf file which will allow you to type your responses directly into the form.  The form CANNOT be saved unless you have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional.  It is NOT necessary to save the form as long as you complete and submit the form before you close your web browser.  As long as your web browser remains open, you will be able to make changes to the form without saving it.
  • Once you have completed all information requested in the form, you will be asked to submit the form both in paper and electronically.  Use the buttons on the form to print out two copies of your completed form.  Sign one copy of the printed form and submit it to the Global Programs Coordinator by the application deadline, Friday, October 17, 2008.  You can drop off the application form to the International Relations Program offices in 225 Eggers Hall, or you can mail the form to the Global Programs Coordinator at the following address: 225 Eggers Hall, Syracuse, NY 13224-1020.
