The Maxwell School Facilities
The Maxwell School is
housed in a complex of new and renovated facilities in the heart of the
Syracuse University campus. Maxwell Hall, which has been completely renovated,
is connected to the new Eggers Hall by glass-enclosed bridges to provide
students with a variety of classrooms, seminar rooms, computer laboratories, as
well as public and private study spaces. One of the most attractive features of
Eggers Hall is the abundance of public space for formal and informal gatherings.
A large open commons, a public events room, and a sixty-seat cafe provide
opportunities for school and community events.
The
Academic Village, an area on the second floor dedicated to Maxwell's two
professional degree programs, International Relations and Public Administration,
has a large space for quiet study and a smaller space for team study and group
projects. There are a number of desktop computers in the Academic Village for
students' use, and the tables are equipped for laptop access to the Maxwell
computer network. These two spaces are separated by a lounge with kitchen
facilities that also house students' mailboxes. A small group project room is
also available for small student meetings or quiet group study.
The Global
Collaboratory, a 55-seat electronic lecture hall equipped with interactive
video-conferencing facilities, including remote control video cameras, studio
lighting, built-in and overhead microphones, and a large rear projection
display, links Maxwell to other locations across the country and around the
world. The adjacent interactive media laboratory and satellite video viewing
room are used by faculty and students to prepare digitized video and multi-media
presentations, courseware, and research documents. C-SPAN, CNN, and SCOLA
(Satellite Communications for Learning) provide news and educational broadcasts
from the global community.
One of the state-of-the-art facilities available in Eggers Hall is the IR/PA
Graduate Computer Lab. This lab is intended for general computing by graduate
students in the International Relations and Public Administration programs and
for graduate instruction. Students have access to the lab 24 hours a day, except
when the lab is used for instruction. Students can access the network throughout
the Maxwell complex over a wireless (802.11b) network.
