Welcome
to the Maxwell School's
International Relations Program!

The cold war lasted 45 years, but the post-cold war era
ended after ten years. As a result of changes in information technology,
international affairs are speeding up, and we find ourselves now in a very
different environment--one that is complex and based increasingly on
networks. Although international business has adapted to the emerging
network culture by decentralizing and becoming more flexible,
governments are struggling to adapt to the rapidly changing environment
of the post-nine eleven world.
Our goal here in the Maxwell School is to prepare you for a
position of responsibility in a networked world. Our academic programs,
both the undergraduate major and the professional graduate program,
provide a rigorous education for those who seek to understand the world
and to make it a better place.
Our faculty and the research centers and programs they lead
are innovators of public policy and international affairs. The Maxwell
School IR Program has hundreds of alumni who are moving into positions
of leadership in government, NGOs, and international organizations in
many different fields, including development policy, conflict
resolution, international trade, and international security.
Whether you are
planning to visit in person, or conducting a virtual visit, I urge you to
join us in this quest.
Sincerely,
Matt Bonham
IR Program Chair
