The undergraduate major in International Relations is an interdisciplinary program housed in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs of Syracuse University’s College of Arts & Sciences.  Courses offered by the social science departments in the Maxwell School that may count toward the undergraduate International Relations major are listed below by semester, department, and course number.

Introductory courses required for the IR major are designated as REQ.  Advanced courses (300-level or higher) that count toward the IR major’s geographic concentration (GEO) are identified as follows:  AFR = Africa; ASIA = Asia; EUR = Europe; LA = Latin America; ME = Middle East.  Advanced courses that count toward the topic concentration (TOP) are identified as follows:  ICC = Intercultural Communication; IPE = International Political Economy; ILO = International Law & Organization; ISD = International Security & Diplomacy (formerly FPWCR = Foreign Policy, War, & Conflict Resolution).

Please note that advanced courses with an international focus offered outside the Maxwell School’s social science departments from other Arts & Sciences divisions such as Humanities (language & culture, fine arts), from other schools/colleges (Management, Communications), and from study abroad programs may also be appropriate to count toward the IR major.  To discuss these options, please consult the Director of Undergraduate Studies for International Relations, Dr. Francine D’Amico.
