Learning Community

The International Relations Program is pleased to support the new initiative for prospective IR majors on campus called the "IR Learning Community." Inaugurated in the Fall semester of 2002, the "Learning Communities" project is a partnership among several units at the University: the College of Arts and Sciences; the Office of Residence Life; Academic Advising and Counseling Services; and the Division of International Programs Abroad.

The International Relations Learning Community offers new students a chance to live and learn together in a way which fosters their interest in international affairs. This learning community approaches international relations in at least three ways:

  • Students are housed together in a dormitory, and have opportunities to define international relations in their living space

  • Students learn together in a shared course experience, Introduction to International Relations

  • Students develop their skills and appreciation for international affairs in a number of sponsored activities with other units on campus, projects, field trips, or other occasions.

On behalf of the International Relations Program, the Director of IR Undergraduate Studies, Professor Francine D'Amico extends a warm welcome to our International Relations Learning Community Students.
