Watergate, the Cherry Blossoms, Capital Hill, K Street, the District of Columbia--however you think of it, you'll find Washington D.C. an amazing, fast paced city with endless attractions, events, and political disputes that will keep your feet moving and your mind busy around the clock.

Washington is a city like no other.  It is perhaps the only city in this whole country where people in their twenties have a significant amount of power and influence in major domestic and international affairs.  Washington is a city that was built on the energy, intelligence and hard work of individuals who work anywhere from 14-hour days to 7 days a week.  The easiest way to understand Washington is to understand the mentality of the city as put in the form of this joke.  At the end of the day in New York City, men and women ask one another 'how much money did you make today?'  At the end of the day in Washington D.C., men and women ask one another 'how long did you work today?'   This is the mentality that keeps Washington running, that and of course the dedication of interns.

As a part of this program you will have a chance to become an integral part of Washington D.C. by working in government, a non-profit organization, or the private sector.  Interns are extremely valuable to every agency in Washington and although you will only work three or four days a week, you will play significant roles in developing policy initiatives and programs that affect citizens in this country and in the larger global community.  Interning in Washington will allow you to begin building a network of contacts to provide you with recommendations, advice and career opportunities in all sectors.  This experience will also be particularly valuable if you hope to make a career either in the United States government or in the many non-profit organizations in Washington that work to influence government policy.

Washington D.C. is where history is made.  This city will not cease to amaze you.  In Washington you never know who the next rising star will be, what the next headline will be on the Washington Post, where your next assignment will take you, when you'll run into famous Washingtonians, or why you even made it this far.  The only way to join in the fun is to come experience Washington for yourself!
