Email Requirement for Class |
Discussion Fridays: Each Friday, beginning on January 28th, will be devoted to the discussion of the course material. Each week, every student must submit one question to me by Email by Thursday Noon. If you do not submit a question, it will have a deleterious effect on your final grade. If you cannot use Email you may submit the question to me by other means, but I encourage you to learn how to use Email. |
Brian Tierney, Western Europe in the Middle Ages: 300-1475, Sixth Edition, Paperback This book can be ordered from Amazon.com for $61.10 and from Barnes and Noble for $57.75(Hardcover 5th Edition available for $59.37 and can be used for the course; the Fifth edition can be found on the www. for ca. $20.00 used) Those of you have have the Koenigsberger textbook will from History 211 can use it. It is, however, not an adequate textbook. I have placed several copies of Tierney's Western Europe in the Middle Ages 300-1475 on Three Day reserve in the library. You will find Tierney's book a perfect complement to the readings and the lectures. |

| Papers:
There will be no in-class examinations for the course. There will be three
required essays. They will based on the lectures and readings. The first two
essays will be ca. 5-7 pages in length, the final essay will be ca. 10-15
pages. The essays must be typed double-spaced, and proofread. In addition to the
essays, graduate students must write a research paper. The topic of the paper must be
approved by me before March 3th. Schedule for Essays Essay 1: Topic Given
