Summary: I am an applied anthropologist, concerned with translating the skills and knowledge of my discipline into problem-solving action. In June 2000 I assumed the role of Chair of Anthropology. Before doing so, I was able to take a sabbatical during Spring Semester to do applied work. I was in Ethiopia for much of January 2000 as a member of the BASIS Horn of Africa Collaborative Research Support Program. The BASIS research project is on food security issues in South Wello, a highland region which has suffered widespread hunger in recent years.
