Summary: The enduring quest for the elixir for sustainable development has focused renewed attention on a durable feature of globalization - transnational worker remittances. During this presentation, Dr. Stuart Brown, Professor of International Relations, will explore the questions of whether the rising volume of cross-border remittances offer significant potential for raising economic growth, ameliorating poverty and moderating income inequality in poorer countries. The talk will examine trends on the volume, geographical composition and uses of remittance flows. It will also summarize recent theoretical and empirical work on the varied incentives and determinants of remittance behavior.
