Program Costs for Students Interested in MAIR Who Are EU Country Citizens:
YEAR 1 -- Maxwell School
Master’s of International Relations (MAIR)
Students will be expected to pay for Year 1 in US dollars. Costs are estimated here using a currency conversion rate of 1 US dollar equal to .7227 euro and 284 euros per credit hour.

The summer sessions are “pre-pay” at time of registration. The Fall Semester is billed in early October, the Spring Semester in early March.
Off-campus housing is quite affordable in the Central New York area. There is availability of housing near the University. Many students share “flats” with others in the program and rents can range anywhere from 217-506 euros per month depending on living arrangements, if utilities are included, etc. Cost of living data for Central New York where Syracuse University is located indicate that around 867 euros a month including housing, books for courses, food, etc. makes for comfortable living.
YEAR 2 – Hertie School of Governance, Berlin and Institute of Social Studies, The Hague

Living costs in Berlin are low compared to other metropolitan cities in Europe, particularly when it comes to housing. The sum we quote here is a bit higher than average to help you not underestimate costs. An estimate of minimum living costs is currently around 800 euros per month which includes housing, food, books, etc.

Costs for living expenses are approximately 970 euros per month, based on a moderate standard of living while in the Netherlands. The Institute of Social Studies (ISS) offers all students a room in the ISS hostels. Rent there is approximately 400 euros a month.
Stipends
Stipends of 12,000 euros each are available for 6 EU citizens. These stipends are to cover costs of living and travel while students are in the United States during their first year of study. These stipends are funded by a grant from the European Commission.
