11th Annual Manlius Pebble Hill Model United Nations Conference

Manlius Pebble Hill High School, October 30, 2010

The Moynihan European Research Centers have once again shown their dedication to enhancing K-12 education in New York by sponsoring the Nottingham High School Model United Nations’ participation in the Manlius Pebble Hill Model UN Conference on October 30, 2010.

Eleven Nottingham students attended the Model UN Conference, representing the delegations of Luxembourg, Kuwait and Cuba with Model UN advisor James Doherty. “Whether the club members were hammering out a nation's position, discussing a solution to a natural disaster, or bagging leaves for funds in the Nottingham's front Memorial Garden, what stands out to me was their active involvement in the task and enthusiasm for collaborating and constructively engaging one another,” said Doherty.

The Moynihan European Research Centers' goal is to continue this collaboration in the future.

The Twenty-Seventh Annual Central New York Model United Nations Conference

Syracuse University, Jan. 8-9, 2010

The European Research Centers at the Moynihan Institute continued their collaboration and support of Nottingham High School and their participation in the Central New York Model United Nations Conference.  This semester’s conference was held here at Syracuse University.  Over 40 high schools participated in the exercise intended to educate students about current events, diplomacy, communication and globalization.

10 Nottingham students participated in the exercise, representing the countries of Austria, Chad and Norway.  They were advised by Nottingham teachers James Doherty and Cynthia Cronin.  Before the conference begins, the students are responsible for an in-depth analysis of the country they are representing.  During the conference they engage each other in debate and critical thinking from the perspective of their country, with the goal of reaching a consensus in committee within a given time frame.
