Summer in Florence: Course Announcement
Niccolo Machiavelli: His Florentine Context and His Contemporary Significance
(PHI/PSC 300, 3 credits, undergraduate) May 27-July 10, 2010
Delve into the political philosophy of Florence's most famous citizen, identifying the formative influences on his thought processes (including his rejection of the classical account of political virtues) and assessing its continuing significance. You'll become acquainted with some of the basic ideas in Machiavelli's work and the wider debates in political philosophy in which those have played a role.

The Syracuse Center is within walking distance of the Council of Europe and the Court of Human Rights, and qualified students may intern or research at one of the Council directorates.
