Professional Engagement

The Transnational NGO Initiative is currently organizing two activities related to professional engagement.

The first will involve a set of issues forums, simulations, and short workshops for mid-career NGO managers and those who will assume high-level leadership positions in civil society organizations in the near future. Two roundtable discussions will be held this year, one of which will be held in the spring of 2007 at the Maxwell School’s Washington DC alumni center, the Greenberg House.

The second activity is the launch of a Moynihan Fellowship Program. This fellowship program will provide 3-4 senior NGO leaders with the opportunity to be in residence at the Moynihan Institute for one full week each year. While here, the Fellows will interact with faculty and students and reflect on as well as receive help in analyzing an NGO organizational challenge that he/she is particularly concerned with. The first Fellowship week will be held in March- April 2007.

Both of these opportunities are being developed in conjunction with the Maxwell School’s Executive Education Program. The Executive Education Program was the first university-based program in the United States dedicated solely to providing professional training and development for public managers. It provides professional development opportunities leading not only to an Executive Masters of Public Administration, but an increasing number of certificate programs as well.
