The notion of the child-god, particularly
popular in Indian poster art, owes much to pictorial representations
of Krishna, whose various exploits as an infant and child
are celebrated in the popular Vaishnava texts, the Harivamsa
and the Bhagavata Purana. He was especially fond of stealing
butter.
