Certificate
of Advanced Standing - South Asia
The
South Asia Program is an interdisciplinary effort
that focuses on the cultures, politics, history, arts, and
current events of South Asia (the nations of Afghanistan,
Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and
Sri Lanka). The Center offers the North Indian and Pakistani
language Hindi-Urdu and the South Indian language Tamil.
Located in the Global Affairs Institute, the South Asia
Center is a National Resource Center for South Asia, funded
by the U. S. Department of Education, in a consortium with
Cornell University. The Center coordinates a variety of
colloquia, film series, lectures, and cultural events for
all members of the Syracuse University community as well
as faculty and students at nearby colleges.
Students
who have completed 15 graduate credit hours in courses dealing
with South Asia are eligible to apply to the Director of
the South Asia Program for a Certificate in Advanced Standing:
South Asia. The Director shall determine that the courses
listed by the student meet the requirements for the Certificate
of Advanced Study.
Graduate
students may apply at any time after they are matriculated
in a graduate program at SU, although it is advisable to
wait until their final semester/year or until they have
completed the requirement of 15 credit hours so that the
courses for which they are actually registered are reflected
in their application.
