Speaking:    Deepak Thapa, Director of the Social Science Institute of Nepal

Summary:   Mr. Deepak Thapa stands out as a committed researcher and writer who has significantly influenced the discourse on such critical issues in Nepali society as modernization, economic globalization, and violent insurgency.  As Director of Nepal's Social Science Institute, he facilitates and encourages social sciences study in the country, including research and lectures on conflict resolution.  Also a freelance journalist, Mr. Thapa is considered a leading authority on the Maoist insurgency in Nepal.  He is co-author of A Kingdom Under Siege: Nepal's Insurgency, 1996-2004 (2005).
