Summary: The
paper "The British Traveler in
India: narratives of Interracial
Intimacy" examines the travel
journals of two British women
who journeyed to India
between1835 and 1842. While
these texts encapsulate the
tenor of Anglo-Indian life prior
to the mutiny in 1857, Nandini
reads these travel journals for
scripting a particular response
towards racial mixing,
especially the way in which
these texts register multiple
levels of interracial
interaction, imagine and realize
friendships across class and
national borders.
