Summary:
This event is co-sponsored by the Center for South Asian
Studies in Moynihan Institute and would analyze the
rebellion of 1857-58 in India on the 150th
anniversary of this seminal episode. At this meeting
Professor Norman Kutcher will talk about the Chinese
implication of 1857 rebellion and Professor Romita Roy will
discuss the visual representation of the rebellion of 1857
in India and United Kingdom. The principal speaker on this
occasion would be Professor Crispin Bates of Edinburgh
University, United Kingdom. His talk is entitled 'Mutiny at
the Margins: New Perspectives on the Indian Uprising of
1857'.
