Looking Behind Mud Walls: Based on a slide production by Don and Jean Johnson, New York University, with narrative by Charlotte Wiser With an update by Susan S. Wadley, Syracuse University: The Village in the 1990s In the 1970s, Don and Jean Johnson, who had often taken students from NYU to the village known as Karimpur, made famous by the books Behind Mud Walls and The Hindu Jajmani System, put together a slide set as a supplement for teachers. That slide set, and a narrative written for it by Charlotte Wiser, forms the core of the following presentation. Susan S. Wadley of Syracuse University, whose own writings on Karimpur (Struggling with Destiny in Karimpur, 1925-1984) have furthered our knowledge of this community, has added a new section that shows the aspects of the village community in the 1990s. |
