From the Alumni Director: Mapping Our Impact

December 13, 2023

During an Orange Central presentation this fall, Dean David M. Van Slyke shared the theme of the Maxwell School’s centennial celebrations—“Ever Strive”—and a special opportunity for our alumni to celebrate 100 years of excellence with us, from wherever you may be.

Dozens of alumni joined us in Atlanta in November for a gathering celebrating our upcoming centennial. From left are Thomas Boyle ’83 B.A. (Econ), Allison Bronson ’08, G’09, Daryl Meadows ’99, Dwayne Baker ’98 and Brian Rubenstein ’93 B.A. (PSc). Boyle, Bronson and Baker are members of the Atlanta Regional Council. Meadows and Baker are leaders of the Syracuse University Alumni Club of Atlanta.

We are creating an interactive, digital map that will not only show our global network but also enable alumni to provide professional updates and share what motivates their work…how they “ever strive” to make the world a better place. With more than 38,000 alumni living and working in all 50 states and over 150 countries, the map will be a terrific demonstration of the reach and impact of Maxwell’s global network.

This is where we need your support. The map won’t contain names or other personal details except from those who choose to add it. Those who complete a simple online form will be added to the map. The form includes an opportunity to attach a photo or short video clip sharing what you ever strive for. All alumni who complete the form, with or without attachments, will have a chance to receive a special centennial gift pack.

Need some inspiration? Alumna Phaedra Stewart ’91 B.A. (Econ) recently told us, “There’s a very old gospel song that I remember listening to with my grandmother, and the song says, ‘May the work I’ve done speak for me.’ I ever strive to do work that I am remembered for. That’s my goal in life. I just want to do such good work, that’s how people remember me.”

In addition to the alumni map, we’re planning to celebrate the centennial with a commemorative edition of this magazine and special events including a celebration in Washington, D.C., this spring, and a gathering in Syracuse next fall. Other events, including named lectures, panel discussions and alumni gatherings, will also mark our birthday. We’re off to a great start: as of the time of this writing, Maxwell has held centennial events in Boston and Atlanta.

Visit our centennial webpage for the latest news and updates. We look forward to celebrating this historic milestone with you!
