Lovely Speaks to CGTN and South China Morning Post About Efforts for a Phase 2 Trade Deal with China

On March 30 U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai spoke before the House Ways and Means Committee and said that talks with China on issues beyond the phase one trade deal reached more than two years ago "have been unduly difficult." Professor Mary Lovely says that China has made some advances, but notes difficult areas, including China's use of non-tariff barriers to slow down U.S. exports during the trade war. "I don’t know if there’s much basis for easing [tensions in] the relationship at this point," Lovely tells the South China Morning Post. She also discussed Tai's comments with the China Global Television Network.
