In the News: Catherine M. Gerard

O’Keefe, a Maxwell School alumnus and Syracuse University Professor, was at the helm 20 years ago when Columbia broke apart while returning from a space research mission. 

"From Bureaucrats to Entrepreneurs to Networkers, Advocates, and Empaths: Reappraising Human Resources Management Ideals and Practices in Public Administration," co-authored by Maxwell professors Sabina Schnell and Catherine Gerard, was published in "Review of Public Personnel Administration."

“There’s no doubt that we are not going back to the way it was. There will be a—quote unquote—new normal," says Catherine Gerard, associate director of Executive Education, about the short- and long-term effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic. “This has been an incredible disruption,” University Professor Sean O’Keefe said. “This disruptive change is having a global consequence.”

After serving as its director or co-director since 2005, Catherine Gerard has stepped down from her leadership role at the Maxwell School’s renowned Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration (PARCC), effective July 1, 2020. Gerard will continue as an adjunct professor of public administration and associate director for the Executive Education Programs at Maxwell, and also continue her work as co-director of the Collaborative Governance Initiative at PARCC. 

Catherine Gerard, director of the Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration, discusses the importance of peacebuilding, dialogue and local efforts in combatting violence against women across the globe. She appeared on a documentary featuring a local women's group, Women Transcending Boundaries, which is a group that fosters a community of women from many faith and cultural traditions seeking to nurture mutual respect and understanding.
