In the News: Francine D’Amico

The 2022 One University Awards were held Friday, April 22, in Hendricks Chapel. The annual event honors members of the Syracuse University community who are making a difference through academics, scholarship, creative work and dedicated service.

“We enjoy working with students from Kazakhstan because they are so appreciative of their opportunity to study at the Maxwell School,” says Steve Lux, director of the Executive Education program. “Every one of them are eager to apply what they have learned to the challenges facing their country."

NMUN, which elected Francine D'Amico, teaching professor of international relations to the board of directors, is a nonprofit organization that advances understanding of the United Nations and contemporary international issues by providing quality education experiences that emphasize collaboration and cooperative resolution of conflict. 

Almost a century ago, a Maxwell faculty member turned a top-of-the-head idea into a student exercise in diplomacy—and basically invented Model UN.

Tom Perreault, professor of geography, was named Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence. In addition, Francine D'Amico, teaching professor of international relations, received a Meredith Teaching Recognition Award. These awards recognize and reward outstanding teaching at the University.

The dean of the Maxwell School has appointed Francine D’Amico to the position of teaching professor in the International Relations Program. The promotion recognizes D’Amico’s accomplishments in teaching, advising, service, and curricular and co-curricular development since joining the Maxwell School in 2000.

Francine D'Amico, associate professor of international affairs, served on the National Screening Committee for the Fulbright-Clinton Public Policy Fellowship 2017-2018 offered through the Institute of International Education. The committee is comprised of area specialists and authorities in various fields who review applications and nominate candidates to the award sponsors.

Maxwell’s undergrad program in international relations serves a rising tide of students who know globalism as something more than just a slogan.
