We request proposals from qualified graduate students who wish to enhance their knowledge of a European language to complement their current program of study.

Summer Fellowships - Deadline: February 15, 2008
Summer 2008 Fellowships provide up to $4,000 for tuition and a $2,500 living stipend for intensive (6 or 8 weeks) study abroad at the intermediate or advanced level in any European language or at a qualifying US summer school (Middlebury or the like) for beginning language training.  Summer Fellowships are also available to qualifying students from other universities.

Academic Year 2008-09 Fellowships - Deadline: March 7, 2008
Academic Year 2008 Fellowships provide 24 credits of tuition and a $15,000 stipend and require students to study a two-course sequence in one of the European languages offered at SU, with a preference for less commonly taught languages such as Polish, Portuguese, and Turkish.  Proposals for dissertation writing that advance language and area studies training will also be considered but subject to special approval restrictions.

Only US citizens and permanent residents who are full time graduate students are eligible.
