Advocacy
and Activism
Interested in
transnational labor activism?
If you’re interested in examining the
theme of transnational labor activism along with other
faculty and graduate students, join PARC’s new Transnational
Labor Activism Reading Group (TARG).
We’ll meet every three weeks over wine and cheese to
discuss recent books and articles, share ideas and expand
our individual and collective knowledge on the topic.
Whether you want to develop new research ideas or expand
your knowledge of this field to strengthen your current
projects, this group presents an opportunity to engage with
recent scholarship and scholars in a sustained way that can
lead to in-depth learning.
The group will start with the book
Global Unions: Challenging
Transnational Capital Through Cross-Border Campaigns
edited by
Kate Bronfenbrenner, followed by Gay Seidman’s
Beyond the Boycott: Labor
Rights, Human Rights, and Transnational Activism.
Other readings
will be chosen from a working bibliography on transnational
labor activism compiled by Dana Hill, a Social Science
doctoral student who is assisting with the reading group.
Check out the bibliography at the link
below, or email Dana at
dmhill@maxwell.syr.edu for access to the searchable
version of the bibliography on RefWorks.
If you’re interested in joining the TARG, please e-mail John
Burdick at
jsburdic@maxwell.syr.edu by January 29 with your work
schedule. I will find a time for our 90-minute sessions that
is consistent with as many of the schedules as possible.
