SU Abroad
The CMC collaborates with SU Abroad to train undergraduate students who plan to participate in the SU Study Abroad program. Our training focuses on cross-cultural communication, perception, self-understanding, stereotyping and prejudice, values and culture. We train SU Abroad Associates at CMC’s cross-cultural communication training and then help facilitate the SU Abroad workshops. Several SU Abroad workshops are usually offered in February – March. International Relations Orientation
CMC provides an ice-breaking session for new International Relations Master’s students in August. The goal is to foster cohort-building as these students embark on their IR degree program. This is also an opportunity for CMC to promote its activities and conflict resolution field in general.
Mediation Skills Workshop
This 3-day, 24-hour mediation skills workshop offered two Syracuse University departments basic training in third-party conflict management tools to utilize with student and employee population settings. Understanding of conflict styles, reflective listening, assertion, interest-based problem solving as a neutral third party were introduced in order to ultimately reach agreement between two parties in conflict. The importance of the neutrality of the third party is emphasized and stressed.
SUNY-ESF: Workshop and Seminar on Natural Resources Policy and Management
CMC has presented two sessions to this graduate-level seminar at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry. The focus in these sessions was how to incorporate basic conflict management tools such as reflective listening and interest-based problem solving in interactions with various cohorts including community and professional groups who may be in conflict themselves.
