Letter from the Chair

To Prospective Graduate Students:

Thank you for visiting our website to learn more about the Graduate Program in Political Science at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.  If you wish to receive our printed information and an application booklet, please fill out the Information Request Form.  Do not hesitate to contact us if those materials fail to arrive within three weeks of your request.

Our brochure, which reiterates the information on this website, aims to convey a sense of the activities and interests of the community of faculty and graduate students in the Political Science Department at Syracuse.  I encourage you to write to individual faculty whose interests correspond most closely with your own for additional information, or to make them aware of you and your application.  Better still, I invite you to visit us if this is at all possible, to meet faculty and resident graduate students, and to see our facilities and the University.

In order to be considered for financial aid, your application (including original GRE and TOEFL scores) must be received by January 10th.  I strongly recommend submission of your completed application as early as possible.  Applications received before April 1st will receive full consideration, but most financial aid awards are made by mid-February.

As part of your application, I encourage you to provide us with as full a statement as possible concerning your background, your academic plans and your goals in undertaking graduate study in the Political Science Department at Syracuse.  The department views this statement as a very important piece of information about you as a potential graduate student, and as a person.

If you have any questions, please contact Candy Brooks, who handles our graduate applications, at 315-443-2238 or cbrook01@maxwell.syr.edu

Yours Sincerely,

Mark Rupert
Professor and Chair
