Janet Wilmoth has been elected to be the secretary/treasurer for the Behavioral and Social Sciences Section of Gerontological Society of America.

Merril Silverstein was elected Vice President of the Research Committee on Aging of the International Sociological Association.

Yingyi Ma was elected to serve a 3-year term as Co-Chair of East Asia SIG of Comparative and International Education Society

Andrew London was elected to serve a two-year term as Chair of the Youth, Aging, and the Life Couse Division of the Society for the Study of Social Problem.

Margaret Abraham, PhD 1989, Sociology, Syracuse University,  elected President of the International Sociological Association (2014-2018).

Madonna Harrington Meyer received the Gerontological Society of America’s Richard Kalish Book Award for Grandmothers at Work: Juggling Families and Jobs.

Cecilia Green was awarded tenure this May.

Prema Kurien was selected for two Visiting Professor Positions:Ecole des Hautes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris, June 2014,  and Dr. Thomas Tam Visiting Professor, CUNY, 2014-2015,

Prema Kurien received the Award for Contribution to the Field, from the Section on Asia and Asian America within the American Sociological Association.

Yingyi Ma has been named one of the Maxwell School’s inaugural O’Hanley Scholars,  on the basis of outstanding teaching and scholarship.

Gretchen Purser’s undercover work as a temp laborer for three years was featured in a  Huffington Post article .

Gretchen Purser received the 2013 Best Article Award from the Working Class Studies Association for her article “The Labour of Liminality,” Labour, Capital and Society.
