Hi! I'm Julia and I'm from Floral Park, New York - a tiny town on Long Island. I'm studying policy specializing in government and business and minoring in marketing. This past semester, I interned at Howard Consulting Group working with their communications team.
I absolutely loved my internship which has enabled me to become more knowledgeable about the pharmaceutical industry and health care policy, an area that I had limited knowledge on prior to my time in DC. This opportunity has also allowed me to gain more experience in social media, advocacy and event planning. I was lucky enough to travel to events in Maryland and Delaware and interacted with CEOs, Senators, Doctors, Patient Advocacy Groups, local government officials, etc. I loved this internship and learning more about the healthcare industry, but it also solidified my interests in a different area. I'm most interested in economic policy and international trade and will continue to pursue studies and internships in this realm. This summer I will be interning at the White House Office of the United States Trade Representative and I am so excited to spend three more months in DC.
I absolutely love the DC atmosphere. Every neighborhood is different, the food is great, there is so much nightlife, and you're at the heart of the country... what more could you possibly need?! The people in DC are just as incredible; the feeling of studying and interning in the capital is exhilarating. I advise incoming students to come into this program with an open mind. Be open to hearing new perspectives and learning about new topics of study whether you're interested in domestic or international issues. You get out what you put in, so take advantage of every moment.
