Hi! I’m Kailey Kane and I’m a senior from Amherst, New Hampshire studying Public Affairs. While studying with the Fall 2018 Maxwell-in-Washington Program, I interned on the Hill for Congresswoman Ann McLane Kuster. Most of my internship revolves around constituent correspondence. However, I also give tours of the U.S. Capitol, help coordinate events, and attend Congressional Briefings that are relevant to my areas of interests. I am interested in pursuing a career in education or healthcare legislation and reform.
Maxwell in DC has opened a lot of doors for me in terms of networking and providing opportunities to learn about issues I may not have been exposed to in my field of study. This is a great time to be on the Hill, and I think that my experience has solidified my goal of living and working in DC.
For future Maxwell in DC students, I would recommend being proactive about internship applications as soon as possible. I would also recommend looking for an internship that will give you experience, not just an internship that might look good on paper -- really look for the right fit for you in your interviews!
