Maxwell & CSIS

A strategic partnership

The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs is Syracuse University’s home for innovative, interdisciplinary teaching and research in the social sciences, public policy, public administration, and international relations. It is the nation’s #1 ranked school for graduate education in public affairs (U.S. News), and is home also to undergraduate social science degrees and nine interdisciplinary research centers focused on topical areas within public affairs.

CSIS | Center for Strategic and International Studies is a bipartisan, nonprofit policy research organization dedicated to providing strategic insights and policy solutions to help decision-makers chart a course toward a better world. CSIS is one of the world’s preeminent international policy institutions focused on defense and security; regional stability; and transnational challenges ranging from energy and trade to global development and economic integration. For the past six years, CSIS has been named the world’s number one think tank for international security by the University of Pennsylvania’s “GoTo Think Tank Index.”  Thomas J. Pritzker serves as Chairman of the CSIS Board of Trustees.  CSIS is led by John J. Hamre, who has served as  President and Chief Executive Officer since 2000.  CSIS is regularly called upon by Congress, the Executive Branch, and the media to explain the day's events and offer bipartisan recommendations to improve U.S. strategy.

The Maxwell School is pleased to offer its Executive Masters in International Relations entirely from its Washington, D.C. headquarters at CSIS (EMIR in DC).  This effort is part of Maxwell’s larger strategic partnership with CSIS.  Courses take place at CSIS, and the curriculum both utilizes and builds on Maxwell’s long-standing international relations programming in D.C.

The EMIR in DC is the only executive degree program in international affairs to combine the strengths and resources of both a major research university and a global think tank.
