Genghis Khan's Descendants and Post-Communist Mongolia

After more than two centuries of Chinese rule and seventy years of Soviet Communist influence, Mongolia finally had an opportunity to chart its own policies and future in 1990. This talk describes both its successes and failures, which has now led to economic crisis and political stalemate.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Morris Rossabi (Ph.D., Columbia University) is Distinguished Professor at the City University of New York and Adjunct Professor of Mongolian History at Columbia University.  Author or editor of 25 books, including Khubilai Khan; Voyager from Xanadu; and Modern Mongolia, he has contributed chapters to three volumes of the authoritative Cambridge History of China and two chapters of the Cambridge History of the Mongol Empire and has collaborated on exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
